A road trip, the doctor's and shots . . . oh my!

We made up for having such a boring few weeks - we went to Uncle Mike and Aunt Julie's for the weekend and then came back just in time to go to the doctor's and get Jack's first round of shots!!
First, the road trip & visit:
We left an hour later than we had planned, but made it in good time thanks to Matt driving 15 mph above the speed limit and the beautiful weather. Jack was great too! He didn't have any crying spats and only needed to eat once (which we did in the car because it was right after we left the rest stop).
It was a very relaxing time in Schenectady. We had a party for Mike's graduation with some of the friends out there. We also visited Katie Knaggs for a while. I can't believe how big Oscar is!! I think that Jack is on his way to being a competitor though :)

This is a picture with Uncle Mike at Katie's house. I'm not sure what that face is on Jack, but he was having a good time!

Emma is also growing up so fast. I can't believe that she almost doesn't fit on her changing table on the pack & play. Julie also said that she is wearing 9 month sleepers and they are getting to be tight on her toes!! I got a few cute pictures of her - one with Jack in their car seats . . . again, and one with her Grandpa playing the harmonica for her. I am told that she really likes it and it calms her down sometimes when she's crying or fussy. We had a great time out there and hope that we can continue to get the cousins together often!!

Now, the doctor visit:
Jack is officially a piggy. He weighs 14 lb 4 oz and is 23 3/4 inches long. The doctor said he is in the 90th percentile for weight, but average for length. So what this means to me is that none of his 0-3 month pants fit him anymore, but the 3-6 month pants are going to be too long for him. What a dilemma! And, he is now wearing 3-6 month size sleepers because his neck is too big for the 0-3 month size. I don't know what I'm going to do with him :)
But, back to the doctor visit. He is in good health. The doctor said everything looks great and that I should keep feeding him when he's hungry . . . which is all the time! So then, it was time for the shots. She told me that since he's bigger than most 2 month olds, I should give him almost double the dosage of Tylenol after his shots! YIKES !!
So the nurse came in and he did his first vaccine orally and he seemed to like it. It smelled good - just like his vitamins! Then, came the three shots, one in his right thigh and two in his left. He cried bloody murder as soon as the needle went in his right thigh and as soon as she was done, she started yelling at me to "Pick him up, pick him up." So I grabbed him and his blanket and rocked him for a while. Then the nurse told me that she has to check for bleeding at the sites . . . as I'm looking at my white shirt that I'm wearing. Luckily there wasn't much blood and it didn't get on me (not that I really would have minded).
After the nurse left, my sister Becky helped me calm him down and we gave him his double dose of Tylenol and then put his clothes back on. By this time, he was calming down. We put him in his car seat and by the time we were checking out and making another appointment, he was sleeping . . . so it must not have been too traumatic for him to get those shots!!
Oh, and poor Matt. I made this appointment so he could come, and then something at Buffalo State College needed to be done that day, so he couldn't make it again. Maybe next time!
That's all for this time. I'm sure he'll do something cute soon and I'll post a picture or video of it. So until then I'll leave you with a cute picture of Jack and Daddy.

Time really flies

This past month has been so much fun! Nothing really exciting to share, hence no posts since last month. BUT, we sure have had some nice times. Jack is almost two months old now, but I feel like he's been around forever (in a good way). Below are just some pictures to keep you updated on what he's doing and how he's growing. He is such a porker!! Oh well, hopefully he'll slow down soon. My arms and back can't keep up!! :)

Jack had a bit of a hair growth spurt too! Wow - look at all that hair!!!

He posed for a "photo shoot." Look at the
love handles already. I guess these pants
are a bit too tight. Sorry Jack!

Jack is a bit sleepy after playing with his Aunt Becky! Don't they look cute?!?!

Jack doesn't really have all that hair
I led you to believe in the above
picture. It was just his Aunt Cindy
putting her hair on his head! What
a bunch of sillies!!

Asleep with Daddy . . . who was also dozing off. My sleepy guys :)

This is an outfit that a neighbor made
for Jack. I would never dress him in it
normally so we took some pics of him
in it before he got too big for it. We
call it his "Little Bo Peep" outfit!

Another posting after Jack's doctor visit on Monday. We'll see how much he weighs and how he did with all his shots! Matt is coming to this one for moral support for me!!

A lot has happened . . .

. . . in the past two and a half weeks!! Jack continues to grow like a weed. He went to the doctor's on the 17th and now weighs 11 lbs and is 21.75 inches long!!! I can't believe it :)
He also got to meet his cousin Emma, who is 3 1/2 months older than him, but not much different in size now. I think that Jack is going to be bigger than Emma by the next time they see each other. Emma is cuter than ever now. I can't believe how much she's grown and changed since mid February when I saw her last. It really does go soooo fast!!

Jack also got to meet two of his three great-grandmothers! It was good to visit with both of them. Gramma Koziel on the left and Gramma McCoy on the right. Too bad Gramma Cherven couldn't come up yet, but hopefully in August we'll get to see her!!!

Jack also took his first "real" bath in his bath tub. He absolutely hated it, so I'm glad I got the pictures of him when I did. He looks so cute in his tub, and I didn't dare take his diaper off until the absolute last minute! I never know when he's going to "shower" me :)

Jack is also picking his head up more. We put him on his tummy at my mom's house and he seemed to love it. I've been doing it semi-daily since he was two weeks old, but now he's really starting to show some progress. He will lift his head, turn it from side to side, and even look around for a while. It's so cool!!! Mom put Jack on the dining room table at her house just so the cats and dog wouldn't crawl all over him or try to lick him. I really hate when they try to lick him . . . YUCK!

Well, that's about all of Jack's happenings. But, there are a few other cute pictures that I had to post. Hope you don't mind!!

This is 4 generations on one couch: Gramma Koziel, Me, Jack, Momma

Mom was so mad when she found out that Jack was going to be a boy . . . only because we are all the first born in our families and I guess it has been girls as the first born for many generations before my grandma. Oh well, not much I can do about it now!!

A beautiful picture of Jack with his eyes open. We didn't get many of these in the first month, so it is a rare treat for me still when it happens!!

2 Weeks Old . . . What a BIG guy

Yesterday Jack went for his 2 week check up and he is doing great! He has gained two pounds since leaving the hospital - weighing in at 9 lbs 6 oz. He has also grown about a quarter of an inch, which brings him to 20.5" long. He is really growing fast!!!

And, since yesterday was such a beautiful day (almost 60 degrees and sunny) we went for a little walk around the block. (Mostly just to get me out of the house. I feel like I've been on house arrest for the past two weeks!) Cindy and Becky accompanied me. We probably looked pretty silly-the three of us trying to smush ourselves onto the sidewalk around the stroller so we could all look at Jack while we were walking him!! Oh well, we had fun. And, as usual, Jack slept for the majority of the walk. He only opened his eyes when we hit some pretty big bumps. I think I may have inadvertently given Jack brain damage with all those bumps. Sorry Jack!

Jack has also been to his first restaurant. After my doctor appointment on Tuesday my Dad, Grampa Tip, took Jack and me out for breakfast at . . . you guessed it, The Olive Tree!! He was very good - he didn't make a sound until we were on our way out.

Jack also made it, finally, to his first meeting on Wednesday. He was great, though Matt and I were a bit nervous. Every time he made a face or sighed, we just about had a heart attack thinking he was going to start crying. But, he's a baby, that's what he does and we're just going to have to deal with that when it happens. He, again, didn't make any "real" noises until meeting was over thankfully!! I know that won't be a normal phenomenon, so I'll enjoy it while it lasts :)

By Request . . . More Pictures

With "Daddy". Wow, that sounds really funny to say still. :)
After a diaper change - one where he probably peed on me . . . again!!
We have to pull his pants up so much that he looks like an old, dorky man!
Sleeping in his bassinet.

Finally . . . may we present Jack Michael McCoy

Jack Michael McCoy - born Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 10:35 pm

What a doll!! That's really all we've been saying since he was born! What an interesting day. Let me tell you about it:
We went for a non-stress test for the baby Thursday morning just to see what the baby was doing (as per doc's request). We "failed" the test, so we did a sonogram, which also ended up being a "failure." So, they called my doctor and she said since it's the official due date anyway, why not induce and get the baby out. When Matt and I heard that, we were so excited (and nervous)! So we got in the car and drove to Sister's Hospital. Luckily I've had all my bags packed and in the car since March 1st, so we were ready!!
Once we got to the hospital, it was a blur of a day. We got there around 10 am and by 10:30, I was "in labor" - induced on pitocin. I remember telling Matt a few months back how I wanted the labor and delivery to go . . . and this day was the total opposite of that! I ended up getting the epidural around 4:30pm, which is probably the best thing I could have done. And then around 5pm, everyone in the waiting room (15 people total) came in and visited for about an hour. Then the "fun" began around 7:30pm when the doctor came and it was time to get Jack out. Three hours later, he was born!! It was the greatest feeling in the world. And Matt was awesome the whole time. He even cut the umbilical cord!! And as if that wasn't enough to do in one day, around 11pm, the family and friends in the waiting room (12 people, I think) came in and got to hold Jack and visit with us for about an hour.
It was a very long day, but it was well worth it because Jack is better than Matt or I could have expected. He actually sleeps for about 3 hours at a time (not always at night, but that's okay). He doesn't cry unless he's getting changed - he's very modest! Speaking of changing - I have been initiated to the "changing of the boy" 3 times since we brought him home on Saturday. He's got some distance!!
Well, I think that's long enough for now, but I will get back with more exciting news and stories shortly.
Love,
Nicki

Today's the day . . . supposedly

Well, we really left you all hanging. Sorry about that. Maybe now that I'm home, I'll have more time for this stuff :) Today is the "official" due date that we've been telling people, so hopefully soon we'll have some pictures of little Jack Michael McCoy to show to the world!!! This pregnancy has gone by so quickly and so effortlessly that it is almost surreal still that we will have a baby in our lives soon. We hope to have pics up soon - so come back and visit in a week(or so) and "meet" Jack!! Love, Matt & Nicki

P.S. This is the latest picture of my "hugisitiy" as my sister Becky likes to call it. We don't usually dress like this - it was an 80's themed party on New Year's Eve.

IT'S OFFICIAL

It's finally happened - Matt & I are going to have a baby!!!! WOW
I will try to take pictures every month and post a little something about what's new and what's to come!
The doctor said the due date is approximately March 20, 2008! How fun would it be if it came 3 days earlier and we had a little leprechaun?!?!
So far, no morning sickness, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for that to keep up! My mom never had any with any of her four pregnancies, so maybe that genetic code passed on to me :)
Well, not much else to share. In 5 weeks when I go back to the doctor, I might be able to hear it's heartbeat!!!! I can't wait! Either can Matt!
Love,
Nicki

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! I have never done one of these before so please be patient with me!!

Matt and I have lots of things that we'd love to share - so hopefully if we can figure this out, we'll be able to share them soon and often!!!

That's all for now! I just wanted to get this thing started. Maybe we can get some pictures on here soon! That would be nice.

Love,
Nicki
